Who is CAL/ACEP?

The California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians is an organization composed of over 2300 emergency physicians in California. Our membership includes emergency physicians who practice in a wide variety of settings, including: large and small groups, academic centers, and managed care.

Emergency medicine residents are the future of our organization, and their participation is actively encouraged. The president of the California Chapter of the Emergency Medicine Residents Association has a permanent voting seat on the CAL/ACEP board of directors, with all of the responsibilities and privileges that come with that position. As well, residents are actively encouraged to participate in CAL/ACEP activities at the highest level. Funding is budgeted each year for residents from each program in California to attend each and every board meeting, as well as special events such as the Scientific Assembly, the annual Legislative Leadership Conference, and the yearly strategic planning retreat. Multiple current and past CAL/ACEP board members and chapter officers began their involvement in CAL/ACEP as presidents of the CAL/EMRA.

WHAT DOES CAL/ACEP DO?

CAL/ACEP represents and advocates for emergency physicians and the patients we serve. We identify areas of mutual concern that are shared by our membership, and proactively design a yearly agenda that is likely to yield concrete improvements in the practice of emergency medicine, both at the state and national levels. Legislative, educational, advisory, and social endeavors are utilized to realize this goal.

CAL/ACEP serves as a mechanism to organize and effectively utilize the diverse range of expertise that our members represent.
